Professor George Obiozor’s passing has been hailed as a tremendous loss to the country by Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State.
Sen. Nnamani said Nigeria and the South East Zone in particular have lost a patriot and mentor who stood up to be counted when it mattered in response to the elder statesman’s passing in Abuja.
Senator Nnamani, who represents Enugu East in the Senate, expressed regret that Professor Obiozor passed away just as the nation’s political landscape became increasingly complicated.
He highlighted Professor Obiozor’s accomplishments as a distinguished scholar, a model diplomat, and a keeper of Igbo culture and tradition, and said that his departure had left a significant gap in the field.
As an ambassador, Professor Obiozor promoted Nigeria and her potential to the outside world, according to Senator Nnamani. He displayed outstanding leadership and diplomatic skills.
He made a contribution to the sociopolitical and economic advancements in his native Nigeria. He was an unrestrained leader.
We will miss his sharp intellect, command of the English language, and patriotism when it comes to matters of state. No matter whose ox was gored, he called a spade what it was.
Professor Obiozor, according to Senator Nnamani, was a sort of emancipator since he constantly stood out for the disadvantaged and the poor.
Senator Nnamani emphasized that Professor Obiozor, as President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, “stood up for his people and worked for a society with equitable possibilities for all irrespective of tribe or religion.”
He urged the leaders and citizens of the South Eastern States, particularly Imo State, to find comfort in the fact that Professor Obiozor left honorable legacies and constructive imprints on the sands of time.
In his prayer, Senator Nnamani asked God to offer the deceased eternal peace.
