Violence could result from destroying our billboards, the Cross River PDP threatens

Venatius Ikem, the PDP’s chairman in Cross River State, has warned that if the continued destruction of their billboards is not stopped, it may lead to actual bloodshed in the region.

In a Tuesday interview with kuryaloadedin Calabar, the state capital, Ikem was completely open.

However, the PDP has been accused by the All Progressives Congress, the state’s ruling party, of destroying their own billboards willfully in the Cross River North Senatorial District.

The state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, had instructed the security services to crack down on party members who were allegedly responsible for the billboard destruction, which is said to have resulted in the detention of numerous PDP sympathizers.

Ikem claims that the state’s ruling party is behind the demolition of their billboards because it is aware that they are more powerful than them.

The PDP chairman also revealed that the police have made the decision to intervene in the conflict.

“I am glad that Balarabe Sule, the commissioner of police, has chosen to get involved in the problem, particularly in the northern senatorial area.

“The Commissioner of Police just just sent me an invitation to a meeting in Ogoja; from what I can tell, it’s a truce meeting.

If accurate, this is admirable because the current state of affairs will lead to further billboard destruction and perhaps dangerous levels of actual violence.

Security authorities are frequently informed but take no action despite the fact that APC hoodlums are to blame for the damage to our billboards around the State. Our angry kids sometimes want to take revenge, but we always push them back,” he remarked.
