There will be widespread participation in this strike, according to the National Association of Nurses and Midwives.
T. A. Shettima, Nnachi Michael Ekuma, and Shehu Abubakar, among others, announced the statewide strike in a notice signed by all three of them.
“You would recall that the Federal Government announced the removal of fuel subsidy during the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in May 2023,” the letter stated.
The President’s action has inflicted unimaginable suffering on the working class and the poor in Nigeria.
The NLC’s top brass has made numerous requests as a form of capitalization to ease the plight of Nigeria’s working class, but to no avail.
The Federal Government continues to turn a deaf ear to the warnings of the Nigeria Labour Congress despite the NLC’s leadership taking a variety of measures, including a large street protest, a 3-day warning strike, and a number of ultimatums.
Thus, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, the Nigeria Labour Congress’s leadership decided to launch a strike that would last indefinitely.
Accordingly, “given the above, I am directed to convey the decision of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to commence nationwide indefinite industrial action with effect from Tuesday, 3rd October.”
