Former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, his wife Kafayat Oyetola, and other political appointees have been ordered to relinquish any official vehicles they still retain without delay.
The Osun State Government’s Asset Recovery Panel issued the order on Friday in Osogbo.
A statement signed by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and acquired by kuryaloaded announced the order.
The vehicles are worth at N2.9 billion, according to the Asset Recovery Panel, which is led by Bashiru Tokunbo Salam. It was also revealed that the former officials had left with the various kinds of automobiles without having any legal justification for doing so.
According to the statement, “As of today, no law has authorized any elected or appointed officials to use state cars after their terms of service have ended.
“The affected former officials should return government vehicles in their possession, according to the committee’s conclusion, according to the chairman of the asset recovery committee, Dr. BT Salami.
“This is the first group of retrieved automobiles. The second batch will be ready soon. To prevent coercive actions for the recovery of public assets, all involved officials should promptly surrender the vehicles they now possess.
The panel further disclosed that “Governor Oyetola alone owns 11 automobiles, including Lexus Jeeps, Toyota Prado Jeeps, and various brands of expensive vehicles, in the list of affected officials. The wife, Mrs. Kafayat, also has a number of government vehicles that were taken away in violation of the law in her hands.
Other ex-officials on the list include the immediate past Special Adviser on Security, the former Chief Details, the former Personal Assistant to the Governor, the ex-Special Assistants to the Governor, the ex-Senior Special Assistants, the ex-Special Advisers, the ex-Local Caretaker Chairmen and Members, the ex-Board Chairmen and Members, the ex-Chief of Staff, the ex-Deputy Chief of Staff, the ex-Se
“The former Deputy Governor is in possession of more than seven government vehicles, which is against the law.
“A serving Senator, Oriolowo is also ordered to return five machines, including a motor grader, bulldozer, and soil compactor machine, to the Osun State Agricultural Development Program.”
The committee warned the impacted former government employees to follow the order or face legal action.
The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on his inauguration day on November 27, 2022 dislcosed that he will issue an Executive Order setting up a committee to recover assets from officials of the outgone administration of Adegboyega Oyetola.
Also, during the inauguration of the committee, the state’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi publicly revealed that the official quarters of the Deputy Governor was nothing to write home about.
Adewusi bemoaned the extensive looting that had taken place in the quarters.
Defending himself, the former Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi stated that he had moved out of the official quarters months before his tenure expired.
Former officials in the Oyetola administration has also come out to state that the vehicles in their custody were legally signed off to them by the state government under Adegboyega Oyetola.
They also accused the Governor Adeleke of withholding the November salaries of past political appointees who served during the outgone administration.
