Potter: The real reason I substituted Aubameyang twice vs Man City

Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has provided an explanation for his decision to intermittently replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during their 1-0 loss to Manchester City.

Within the first five minutes of Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge, Aubameyang took the position of Raheem Sterling.

Then, in the 68th minute, Potter substituted Omari Hutchinson for him.

As he exited the field, Aubameyang was visibly irritated because his goal-scoring drought had now lasted ten games.

Nevertheless, Potter told the media after the game that “He came on after one minute, hadn’t played for a long, and put in an absolute shift for us, given Manchester City makes you run a lot.”

“In my opinion, he gave his all for the squad. He and Hakim [Ziyech] were becoming a little tired, so that was the choice.

I reasoned that we could use Omari, Conor [Gallagher], and Lewis Hall because we needed a little bit of vitality.
