Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Leicester City, praised Kelechi Iheanacho after the Nigerian scored the game-winning goal in his team’s victory over League Two club Gillingham on Saturday.
At the Priestfield Stadium, Iheanacho’s goal in the 56th minute made all the difference in a close Emirates FA Cup match.
The striker had scored 16 goals in 22 games in the illustrious competition.
The Nigerian international has had trouble getting regular playing time for the Foxes this year since Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy are ahead of him in the lineup.
But when the 26-year-old was given the chance to play against the League Two underdogs, he seized it and put on a performance worthy of man of the match.
“Whether he starts or starts off on the bench, he’s a pretty strong alternative for us. The Leicester Mercury quoted Rodgers as saying, “Kel sometimes enters a game and is spectacular, and then he’ll do something in the same game that is not so good.
But he always gives me his complete dedication. He always gives his all, whether he starts the game or comes off the bench, I’m very convinced of that,” he continued.
