3,785 convictions were obtained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in total in 2022.

Following an evaluation of the commission’s work throughout the previous year, the amount was confirmed on January 4.

The breakdown reveals a 70.5% increase from its 2021 record (2,220 convictions).

Additionally, it shows a 98.93% success rate in prosecution as the anti-graft organization only lost 41 cases in 2022, or 1.07% of all prosecutions.

Most convictions were reported by the Lagos Command (765), then by the Ibadan Command (573). Port Harcourt Command reported 567, while Abuja’s administrative center registered 314.

Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, claimed that the number of victories in 2022 will be the most since the organization’s founding in 2003.

A total of 103 convictions were registered by the commission in 2015, 195 in 2016, 312 in 2018, and 1280 in 2019. Due in significant part to the COVID-19 restrictions, it decreased to 976 in 2020.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman, praised the staff for their commitment despite the difficulties of facing criminal charges in court.

Following pressure from the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF), which listed Nigeria as one of the 23 corrupt non-cooperative countries, former President Olusegun Obasanjo established the EFCC in 2003.
