In preparation for the 2023 general elections, Food Basket Foundation International, or FBFI, has announced that it has finalized preparations to train and use 108 fact-checkers.

The decision was made, according to FBFI, to lessen the threat of false and misleading information before, during, and after the elections.

These revelations were presented by Dr. Funke Akinyele, the Chief Executive Officer of FBFI, during a news conference on voter misinformation/disinformation on Friday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The media briefing, according to Akinyele, was a component of humanitarian efforts to protect the online public square for electoral integrity before, during, and after the general elections in 2023.

She said, “The organization has decided to train and deploy the 108 around the 36 states of the federation in order to ensure transparency in the polls.”

She continued by saying that Nigeria’s destiny as an indivisible nation would depend on the credibility of the general elections in 2023.

To achieve free, fair, and credible elections, she emphasized, all hands must be on deck.

“108 fact checkers, three from each state, will be taught in the spirit of transparency. the individuals who will make sure everything is done properly. people in the age range of 18 to 50. It will all be done online. Journalists are something that we are particularly interested in,” she said.

The decision-making processes of numerous Nigerians are anticipated to be significantly influenced by the digital civic space during the upcoming presidential elections in February 2023 and the governorship elections in March 2023, she continued.
