The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2023/2024 is now accepting applications. For International Students from Developing Countries, the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2023 is currently open.

The Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship to pursue a Masters degree at a prestigious university.

Students will be enrolled in the best colleges in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. Women and men from developing countries are both welcome to apply.

The World Bank Scholarship Program offers 26 Preferred Programs for Masters Degree Programs. The scholarship will pay all costs. The scholarship is for two years.

The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2023/2024 is comprised of the following components:

The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2023/2024 is a full-tuition scholarship for international students to continue their study in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

The following information is provided in detail:

Tuition Fee Economy Class Air Travel between your home country and the host university is included. In addition, each trip will cost US $500.
Medical Insurance
A monthly stipend to cover all living expenditures (Accommodations, Food, etc., including Books).

The JJ/WBGSP scholarship does not cover the following expenses: VISA application(s) fees
Expenses incurred in bringing and/or supporting a scholar’s family members;
Extracurricular activities or training;
Courses that do not fulfill the minimum credit requirements for a graduate degree;
The graduate program does not provide language instruction.
Additional trips during the program of study;
Expenses for research, supplemental instructional materials, field visits, workshop/seminar participation, or internships; or Educational equipment such as computers.
Fee for a resident permit.

Concerning the Joint Japan World Bank Scholarship

There are about 26+ study fields eligible for Master Degree Scholarships under the World Bank Scholarship Program.

There are over 33 universities across the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. You will study at one of the Partner Universities in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, or Japan.

The scholarship is valid for two years.

Eligibility Criteria:

The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2023/2024 has a Basic Eligibility Criteria.
Be a citizen of one of the World Bank’s developing countries on this list.
I do not have dual citizenship from any developed country.
Maintain good health.

Possess a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree earned at least three years prior to the Application Deadline.
After earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree, you must have at least three years of recent development-related professional experience.

Be employed in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time you apply for the scholarship. The only exemption to this condition is for developing country nationals from countries on the updated list of Fragile and Conflict States, which will be presented to applicants in the Application Guidelines for each call for scholarships.

Be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) for the upcoming academic year to at least one of the JJ/WBGSP preferred university master’s programs located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence listed at the time the call for scholarship applications opens on or before the Scholarship Application Deadline date. Before submitting your application, you must upload your admission letter.

Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, or staff of any World Bank Group position, or a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption, with “near relative” defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.

The World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program uses the following method to examine qualifying scholarship applications from developing country nationals, with the goal of finding applicants with the highest potential to benefit their countries’ development after completing their graduate studies.

Two qualified assessors analyze each eligible application independently and grade it on a scale of 1 to 10, taking into account four primary factors and the degree of cohesiveness among them:

Professional Experience Quality (30% weight)
Professional Recommendation Quality (30% weight)
Commitment to your home country (30% weightage)
Background Education Quality (10% weight)
The JJ/WBGSP Secretariat chooses the finalists based on the average score of the two assessors and the following criteria:

Maintaining a geographically diverse distribution of awards
Maintaining an equitable gender distribution of rewards
Unusual circumstances/difficulties in evaluating employment experience and other parts of an application;
Scholarships are awarded to applicants who, all else being equal, have restricted financial means for graduate study abroad.
