Dark Boxing Day: Lagos closes Wonderland following an electrocution of a thrill seeker

After an unnamed visitor was electrocuted on Monday, the Lagos State Government ordered the closure and suspension of operations at the state Wonderland’s children’s area.

According to reports, the tragic tragedy caused chaos as tourists hurriedly exited the venue.

The Lagos State Safety Commission, acting swiftly on behalf of the state government, stormed the site and sealed the Wonderland facility.

In a joint inspection with the State Task Force team, the Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, noted that the decision would prevent fatalities to children who visit the event. He also added that the closure was essential to prevent further exposure of attendees to accidents that could result in injuries and fatalities.

“It has become urgent and pertinent to shut down the facility until all infractions are corrected to prevent users from further exposure to risk, especially children, and to ensure that other lined-up events are safe for Lagos residents,” Mojola said, accusing the event venue owner, Ezekiel Adamu, of refusing to implement safety measures prescribed by the commission despite several meetings at the beginning of the project.

“No person or organization is bigger than the state, and we will continue to safeguard Lagosians’ safety as they enjoy the holiday season in their daily lives.”

The head of the safety commission also exhorted citizens to socialize appropriately while warning other hospitality industry operators not to disregard any state safety regulations.
