The South Korean team announced on Wednesday that Roberto Di Matteo, a former manager of Chelsea, has joined Jeonbuk Motors as a technical adviser.

Di Matteo, who served as Chelsea’s interim manager in 2012 and guided the club to Champions League and FA Cup victories, has not held a managerial role since leaving Aston Villa in 2016.

The 52-year-old Italian has only had three brief runs as a manager since 2012, failing to hold down head coach positions for more than a season at Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Schalke, respectively, despite winning two significant titles with Chelsea.

Di Matteo has taken on a new task as a technical adviser at Jeonbuk Motors after waiting seven years to get back into management.

Di Matteo added, “It is an honor and a delight to join Jeonbuk Hyundai, the best club in Asia, as technical director.

I’m excited to talk to the coaching team about my experiences.

Last year, Jeonbuk Motors broke a run of five straight championship campaigns.

They came in second place in the K-League, trailing Ulsan Hyundai.
