Gov. Mbah forms cross-sectoral committee to address anthrax threat

Barr Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State, has formed a Multi-Sectoral Committee to deal with any public health emergency, including a potential Anthrax outbreak.

Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the State Government’s Secretary, said as much in a statement.

Dr. Ifeanyi Agujiobi, Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry of Enugu State, is serving as the committee’s interim head.

Dr. Okolo Boniface, Director of Public Health Services in the Ministry of Health; Dr. Chinyere Ezeudu, State Epidemiologist; Dr. Chika Okoro, WHO Enugu State Coordinator; Dr. Ifeyinwa Anyanyo, UNICEF Enugu State Representative; and Chinasa Mbah, UNICEF Enugu State Representative.

Dr. Chinelo Nnadi of the Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency; Pharm. Isaac Obetta of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA); Pharm.

In addition to Chidiogo Ave Maria, PRO Ministry of Health, we also have Dr. Onyinye Chime, Consultant Public Health Physician, ESUT, Parkane; Mr. Sunny Okafor, Ministry of Agriculture; Mr. Matthew Abia, Ministry of Environment; and Mr.

Dr. Columba T. Vakuru, the country’s chief veterinary officer and an official with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, first sounded the alarm about a probable anthrax outbreak a few days ago.
