The 2023 Appropriation Bill, which totals more than N243 billion and was previously presented by the State Governor, Alh Abubakar Sani Bello, was approved into law by the Niger State House of Assembly.

This indicates that the Bill has increased by around N5 billion.

The decision was made in response to the report of the House committee on Appropriations, which was delivered by Muhammed Bashir Lokogoma, the committee’s chairman and a member from the Wushishi constituency.

He noted that passing the budget “makes Niger State ready to run the government in 2023 with additional N5 billion into the budget as proposed” and that it was crucial for the start of a new fiscal year.

Over N152 billion in approved capital spending and over N91 billion in authorized recurrent spending are included in the budget.

The committee chairman further noted that because of the complex budget structure, it has been very challenging to track down a specific capital allocation for examination.

As a result, the legislators unanimously urged the executive branch to make sure that the budget is presented to the House at least three months prior to the end of the year so that it can be properly reviewed.
