The verdict in the rape cases against Benjamin Mendy, a player for Manchester City, was announced on Friday.
After the jury was unable to agree on a decision, the court earlier on Friday declared Mendy not guilty of six charges of rape.
Mendy’s trial had taken place in court for six months.
One count of rape and one count of attempted rape could not be decided by the jury during the aforementioned time.
Eight counts of rape, one case of attempted rape, and one further count of sexual assault were brought against Mendy.
The 28-year-old French celebrity will, however, face a new trial on the two rape counts that the jury was unable to resolve, according to a guarantee from the Crown Prosecution Service.
Man City responded by noting that following the court’s final ruling, the Premier League champions are not in a position to make any other comments on the matter.
“Manchester City FC takes note of the Chester Crown Court jury’s decision today, which absolved Benjamin Mendy of all seven counts. The trial is now finished because the jury was deadlocked on two accusations, according to Man City’s statement.
The Club is unable to make any additional comments at this time because there are still unresolved issues in this case. Crown Court in Chester
