Ikedi Ohakim, a former governor of Imo, described his near-death experience on Monday.

After Ohakim fled, gunmen opened fire on his vehicle and used explosives to target the police escort. Four police officers lost their lives.

Ohakim remembered almost escaping death during the tragedy in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.

He claimed that when the convoy was ambushed at Umualumaku, they were traveling between Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano.

The former governor claimed that a barrage of gunfire was fired at them from behind.

“I believed I had passed away, and my son and daughter were with me.

“The armored car was what kept me alive. It is only by God’s particular mercy that I am still alive today, he stated.

Ohakim claimed that the attackers chased after the run-flat tires and kept firing at them.

“You can keep going even after getting a flat tire. They would have cornered and defeated us if they were regular tires, he continued.

Ohakim verified that the four security guards and the vehicle’s driver had died.

The lawmaker expressed his shock and sadness over the murder.

The issue “goes beyond the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB),” Ohakim emphasized.

These people are experts. They were traveling in a BMW 5-series in the color blue. He proclaimed, “They came to kill me.
