Patrick Vieira, a former captain for France, has been hired as the next coach of the Strasbourg club.
The contract Vieira signed with the Ligue 1 club is for three years.
This week, the 47-year-old took over for Frederic Antonetti, who was let go after the squad ended 15th, just two spots and five points above the relegation zone.
It’s a pleasure to have Patrick Vieira, a friend of mine from France’s national team, in Strasbourg.
“He corresponds to the profile we were looking for: a manager with international experience, and who also has a good knowledge of Ligue 1 and its young players,” said Strasbourg president Marc Keller in a statement on the club website.
Since being let go by Crystal Palace last season’s closing stretch, Vieira has remained unemployed.
