Prof. Abdullahi Mahdi, a former ABU VC, passes away at 77

Prof. Abdullahi Mahdi, a former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, has passed away.

The distinguished educator and well-known historian passed away on Friday at the age of 77.

Mahdi served as the vice chancellor of Gombe State University of Science and Technology in addition to other positions.

He began his career in education in 1984 as a senior lecturer in history at ABU, and between 1998 and 2004 he advanced to the position of vice chancellor.

The late scholar was awarded the CON national honor for his outstanding service to the nation.

The funeral will take place in the Emir’s palace in Gombe State on Saturday at 4 o’clock.

Among other books, he wrote “History of Nigeria for Schools and Colleges.”
