Reps suspend the investigation into wage fraud

On Monday, the Ad-hoc Committee looking into employment fraud among Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) postponed its meeting until Thursday, September 7, 2023.

This is because Organized Labor has scheduled two days of strike action for Tuesday, September 5, and Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Investigations into alleged personnel mismanagement, employment racketeering, and egregious IPPIS mishandling were given to the Ad-hoc Committee.

The hearing was delayed so that all of the invited MDAs could give their submissions, according to Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi (APC-Plateau), Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, who spoke after the hearing resumed.

Recall that the Ad-hoc Committee committed to fend off any attempts to divert it from fulfilling its mandates during the hearing last Friday.

Hon. Gagdi assured Nigerians of the 10th Assembly’s determination to put an end to the alleged employment racketeering practice while expressing displeasure at the level of impunity being maintained by some public officials involved.

Hon. Gagdi promised that the issue with the indiscriminate exemptions being provided to MDAs would be immediately eliminated, noting that the Ad-hoc Committee will make extensive recommendations in its report.

The Chairman, Secretary, and Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), and the Head of Service of the Federation (HoS) are just a few of the representatives that the Ad-hoc Committee has so far invited.

In addition, there are Registrars of Federal Polytechnics, Officials of Federal Parastatals, Tertiary Institutions, and the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
