The current government of Sokoto has initiated an investigation into whether or not the previous government improperly distributed land or sold or auctioned off assets

The Sokoto State government has appointed a five-person Commission of Inquiry to investigate the privatization of public land and other government assets under previous Governor Aminu Tambuwal.

Justice M.A. Pindiga (ret.) and Secretary Nasiru Muhammed Binji are in charge of the committee.

The committee also includes Chief Jacob E. Ochidi, SAN; Usman Abubakar; and Barrister Lema Sambo Wali.

In a statement, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s press secretary said the committee would also investigate the government’s bank account and the proceeds from auctions and sales.

As stated in the release, “the committee will examine the various allocations of lands throughout the state, including government-owned houses sold or auctioned.”

Two months from the date of the committee’s first meeting, the report must be submitted.
