The government of Kano State has suspended two school principals for incompetence.
The Kwankwaso, Madobi Local Government Area of the State is home to both a French and Chinese Bilingual College, both of which are led by principals.
Umar Haruna, the State Commissioner for Education, said in a statement released by Balarabe Kiru, the Director of Public Enlightenment for the Ministry of Education, that the suspended principals were not present at their schools when the team of take-up inspection arrived to oversee the start of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The statement also claims that the Commissioner authorized the transfer of Isyaku Umar Abdullahi to the position of principal at the Chinese-English Bilingual College of Kwankwaso and the placement of Umar Sabo at the French-English Bilingual College of.
The statement claims that the inspection team led by the Ministry’s permanent secretary Hajiya Kubra Imam found that the two colleges had not provided students with food for Sunday night and that Monday morning’s meal had not been prepared.
The Commissioner was appalled by the two Principals’ “unconcerned attitudes,” and he ordered them to turn over management of the Schools to the new sit-in Principals and report to the Ministry awaiting an inquiry.
The message urged all school administrators to avoid doing anything that would derail the current administration’s work to revitalize the education system.
According to the statement, the Commissioner praised Kofar Famfo, principal of Government Girls College (WTC) Kano, and Aisha Mohammed, principal of Government Girls Secondary School Kwankwaso, for their hard work and cooperation in getting ready for the 2023/2024 school year.
Students were reportedly “so impressed with the way they were served food,” according to the statement.
“Their participation is highly laudable, and the two schools’ principals have done an excellent job of creating a welcoming atmosphere for their students.”
