United Nigeria Airlines incident is the subject of an NSIB investigation

A significant incident involving an Embraer ERJ145 belonging to United Nigeria Airlines with the registration number 5N-BWY has been reported to and is the subject of an investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau.

The incident happened on September 8, 2023, at 6:33 p.m. There were four crew members and 51 passengers on board, according to the Bureau.

The aircraft skidded off Runway 18R at Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, upon landing, according to a statement released by the NSIB General Manager for Public Affairs, Tunji Oketunbi, and signed by the Director for Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, James Odaudu, on Saturday morning.

He did point out that no injuries or fatalities had been reported.

The kuryaloaded reported that while attempting to land in the pouring rain on Friday night at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos, the aircraft went off the runway.

The flight had arrived from the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri and had been successfully operated and landed at its destination, according to a statement by the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu.

However, the plane’s tires lost traction on the slick surface as it touched down in the deluge, forcing it to drift off the runway.
