Good day—Yesterday morning, suspected bandits stormed the hamlet of Ikachi in the Ohaukwu Local Government region of Ebonyi State, killing two people and looting property valued in the millions of naira. The crime took place in the Akparata region of Effium.

Two were beheaded, seven were kidnapped, and five residences were burned down, according to reports.

According to a statement made by Dr. James Agena, President-General of the Effiulm Community, in Abakaliki, two people were killed and seven others were abducted when assailants, who were believed to be Ezza warriors, attacked the community early yesterday morning.

Two men were killed and beheaded, seven natives of Effium were abducted (five women and two men), twelve people were wounded by gunshots, and five houses were burned down in this morning’s (alleged) attack on Ikachi village in the Akparata area of Effium, according to the statement.

The victims are Ogenyi Abowu, 78 years old, and Obinna Aje, 19 years old.

“This most recent assault follows the (said) assault on Effium urban by Ezza warriors on May 12, 2024, which resulted in the death and severed head of one Mrs. Cecelia Omah.

As far as the peaceful inhabitants of Effium are concerned, this is just one more assault. Everyone implicated in this barbaric atrocity must be immediately apprehended and brought to justice by the Ebonyi State government and the security forces.

“This follows closely after the new peace committee extended an invitation to the two opposing factions on May 21, 2024, to read the government white paper on the Effium crisis.”

Many lives have been lost, countless people have been displaced, and property valued in the billions of naira has been destroyed in the crisis that began in 2021.

The command was aware of the attack and has begun investigating, according to Police spokeswoman Ukandu Joshua, who confirmed the attack
