The Labour Party (LP) has stated that the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office by the courts will not lead to anarchy in Nigeria.
When LP filed a challenge to overturn Tinubu’s 2023 election victory, Tinubu petitioned the Presidential Election Tribunal to dismiss it on the grounds that he did not win the FCT with 25% of the vote.
In his closing written argument before the tribunal, Tinubu advocated for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as though it were the 37th state.
The president has stated that any alternative interpretation would “lead to absurdity, chaos, anarchy, and alter the very intention of the legislature.”
However, in a statement released in response, the LP said that Tinubu’s comments were pointless because the case is already pending in court and that the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, had signed the statement.
We reiterate that the processes and requirements established by law cannot be altered by the APC’s threats against the judges in the tribunal. The Labour Party insists that it be adhered to.
For example, “Let me assure the APC and their leaders that if there were no absurdity, chaos, and anarchy when they forced their way into power, Nigeria will still witness peace when they are eventually evicted from power,” Ifoh said.
