President Muhammadu Buhari dedicated the 41-terabyte national tier-4 Data Center in Kano on Monday.
During the ceremony, Prof. Ali Isa Pantami, Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, stated that the data center was the first of its kind in northern Nigeria and the best in the country thus far.
“The facility’s data collecting dependability is 99.99%, so it is about 100% reliable,” he stated.
Prof. Pantami also promised that the center would strengthen the digital economy, create jobs, and increase cybersecurity while assisting the country in consolidating its digital economy gains.
With 41 terabytes of memory capacity and 2.2 petabytes of storage capacity, the center, which Pantami described as a technologically advanced facility, is designed to provide greater storage facilities for both the public and private sectors across the country.
“Government has its primary data centre in Abuja, another one in the South, which is a backup, and this is another one in the North West.
“That of Abuja and the South was founded a number of years ago. However, this center is higher because it is a tier-four data center. The one in Abuja is a tier three data center. So, this is an improvement to the existing data centers in the country, both private and public. “It’s world-class,” Pantami revealed.
Galaxy Backbone Limited carried out the project.
