The EFCC has issued a call to action for Nigerians to report cybercrimes

Citizens are encouraged to report instances of electronic fraud to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On September 13, 2023, at the Abakaliki International Market in Ebonyi State, the Nigerian Communications Commission held an awareness event titled “Shine Your Eyes, No Fall Mugu” to raise awareness about cybercrime. The event was delivered by Idoko Stephen Etubi, Head of the Cybercrime Section at the Enugu Zonal Command of the commission.

When asked about the situation, Etube, who was speaking on behalf of the Zonal Commander Naibi Aliyu, stated, “Immediately you see something, say something, and EFCC will do something because all those people wey dey do una yahoo-yahoo na we dey fight them for una.”

In his opening remarks, Clement Omife, head of the Consumer Affairs Bureau’s Consumer Protection and Advocacy Unit, emphasized the importance of a coordinated effort between government bodies, business organizations, and individuals in combating the growing problem of electronic fraud.
