William Troost-Ekong has spoken out about his move from Watford to Serie A team Salernitana.
Last month, the Nigeria international ended his three-year connection with the Hornets.
After his previous tenure with Udinese, the 28-year-old returned to familiar territory.
Troost-Ekong was instrumental in Watford’s promotion to the Premier League in his first season, but he lost his starting spot after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
The centre-back admitted that leaving Vicarage Road was difficult for him.
“This was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make in my career,” Troost-Ekong told The Athletic.
“Every time I’ve had a wonderful opportunity to go to a club, which represented a growth in my career, it’s always been a no-brainer.
“But it was a difficult decision since I am engaged in Watford and wanted to be a part of the group again to be promoted – I knew how that felt.”
Troost-Ekong made his debut for Salernitana in last week’s 2-1 win over Leece.
