The reasons why Southampton eliminated Manchester City from the Carabao Cup quarterfinal match on Wednesday were highlighted by Southampton coach Nathan Jones.

According to Jones, Southampton’s victory over Man City was due to their players’ aggressiveness, organization, and desire to win the match against Pep Guardiola’s club.

Sekou Mara and Moussa Djenepo scored goals to help Southampton defeat Man City at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Newcastle United will now play Southampton in the Carabao Cup semifinal match.

I was very happy with the performance. At the news conference following the game, Jones stated, “I thought we were excellent as a team.

“It wasn’t a smash and grab; we were aggressive, structured, and went after the game.

“I am proud of the staff and the players. I’ve received criticism and even non-League managers have told me that I’m not good enough.

“I’m proud of myself right now. It’s amazing to be on the same level as him (Guardiola); it’s what I’ve striven for during my 33-year career.
