NEW CUT-OFF MARK APPROVED BY JAMB FOR TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS FOR 2022 IS 140

July 21, – On Thursday in Abuja, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and stakeholders in higher education accepted 140 as the minimal cut-off mark for admission to the country’s institutions in 2022.

For polytechnics and colleges of education, the passing score was set at 100.

The 2022 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Degree, Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE), and National Diploma (ND) is now taking place at the International Conference Centre in Abuja. This is where the choices regarding the cut-off marks were made.

The meeting is being presided over by Adamu Adamu, the minister of education.

All admissions to the nation’s universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education must be processed through the Central Admission Processing System, Adamu stated in his inaugural remarks to Nigerian tertiary institutions (CAPS).

Even if the violations are discovered after the heads of the institutions have left their positions, the minister promised that anyone found making unlawful admissions would face legal consequences.

“Every school is at liberty to establish the minimum UTME score acceptable to it for admission,” was the resolution that was adopted during the conference. As with regular admissions, each institution will decide how many points are necessary for direct entry admission. However, no institution may propose or approve any applicant for direct admittance who has fewer than two points.

In the same vein, no institution may admit or accept the transfer of a candidate for any degree program unless the candidate has attended the institution for at least two consecutive full-time sessions.

Additionally, the conference decided that “no institution would be permitted to suggest or admit any candidate whose total score is below the minimal score set by the institution and authorized by the Policy Meeting. When computing the percentage-minimum score, the sum of all scores used to rank the candidate must be taken into consideration.
