President Muhammadu Buhari prevented Vice President Yemi Osinbajo from asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to look into fraud charges made against him, according to Vice President Osinbajo. The National Emergency Management Agency’s governing board was indicted in 2018 by the house of representatives’ ad hoc committee on emergency and catastrophe preparedness (NEMA). A N5.8 billion north-east assistance fund was allegedly improperly approved by the board, which is presided over by Osinbajo. Additionally in 2020, it was claimed that the vice president had received N4 billion from Ibrahim Magu, the previous acting chairman of the EFCC. Osinbajo called the allegations “baseless” and invited Mohammed Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to look into them. Osinbajo said: “One day, I went to him because there were certain charges that were made against me,” on Friday at a special dinner to commemorate Buhari’s 80th birthday. “I went to him to provide him with the inquiry letter I had sent to the EFCC. ‘VP, why do you worry about all these people?’ he said this time. These folks basically fabricate all kinds of unfounded accusations and fabrications, including the claim that I am preparing to be married once more. Even some naive individuals waited for me to return and remarry at the National Mosque, according to Osinbajo.
