The trial of Frederick Nwajagu, the “Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate,” was postponed till July 25 by the Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Wednesday.

In total, Nwajagu faces nine charges related to his involvement with the outlawed Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), including plotting terrorist acts, providing material support for those acts, and attending meetings in favor of the group.

The administration of Lagos State took Nwajagu to court on May 9 in a case labeled LD/21505C/2023, claiming that he had broken the Lagos State Criminal Laws (2015).

Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act (2022), the state argued, was also broken by Nwajagu’s acts.

However, the accused entered a not guilty plea.

DSS agents detained Nwajagu because they believed he was going to invite IPOB members to protect Igbo property in Lagos State before the 2023 election.

The Director of Public Prosecutions for Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Martins, informed the court that he would call new witnesses at the rescheduled hearing on Wednesday.

In addition, he informed the court that he had served some papers on the defense team.

However, Mr. Emeka Obiagu (SAN), defense counsel, informed the court that he had not reviewed the documents because he was only served with them on Wednesday morning.

The trial has been postponed till July 25 by presiding Justice Yetunde Adesanya.
