The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed that his administration will continue to be proactive and take steps to ensure the security of the people’s lives and property in the state.
Abiodun made this statement on Wednesday when he met Major General Obinna Ajunwa, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 81st Division of the Nigerian Army, at the Governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor mentioned that the state had experienced security issues in the past, such as farmers/herders clashes, kidnappings, cultism, armed robberies, ritual killings, and other criminal activities. The governor added that the situation was brought under control by the army and other security personnel because they responded quickly to the situation.
Since Ogun State has the largest federal road network in the nation, many people travel through it to go to other parts of the state, which puts strain on our infrastructure and services. Despite this, we will continue to be proactive and take preventative measures to maintain peace and security in our state, the governor declared.
Abiodun assured that his administration would continue to do its best to secure the state at all times, underscoring that any attempt to cause chaos in the state would be seen as an act of sabotage. The state’s security agencies have been given the gadgets, and the welfare of the personnel has been given priority.
However, the governor praised the Army Chief of Staff for responding quickly to concerns about security in the state and the Commanding Officer of the 35 Field Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, for working with other security agencies to purge the state of criminals.
He expressed the expectation that General Ajunwa’s many years of service, both locally and abroad, had adequately equipped him to lead officers and soldiers in the Division. He hailed General Ajunwa as a fine officer with deep experience in both military command and administration.
General Ajunwa previously stated that the purpose of the visit was to acquaint himself with his new surroundings and to express gratitude to the governor for his assistance to the soldiers through repairs made to the Barracks.
The new GOC claimed that in order to keep the state a top investment destination, his officers and men would continue to contribute to maintaining the calm.
“We shall be available whenever you need us. According to the people we heard from, you have impacted their lives, which is why there is peace in this state because you have touched the lives of military personnel.
